TRX Training with Jaynie Falduto

TRX was recently recommended for swimmers in the January/February 2012 issue of Swimmers Magazine and proved to improve race times when swimmers performed TRX dry land exercises along with their normal swim practice. Here's a message from team mate Jaynie Falduto.

I am certified to teach TRX and personally feel it has been a huge benefit to increasing my muscular endurance, along with core strength. Stacie, Karen, and Mia have taken the class regularly, and they probably can concur to some or all of the benefits mentioned.

If you are interested in trying a class, first class is free. No pressure, just wanted to throw it out to everyone on the team since it was in swimmers magazine last month. Classes are held in East Dundee, IL at the intersection of Penny Road and 68, by the big East Dundee water tower. 105 Prairie Lake Road, at a Sports Performance Center. Click here for TRX FLYER.pdf
See you soon in the pool!

Park Ridge 1500 - Update

This update on the Park Ridge 1500 has been received from Barry Dayton. Please direct any questions to Barry.

"We now have a plan. Tentatively, pending approval by ILMSA, the meet will be held SUNDAY June 26 (next day) at Woodland Trails Pool in Mt. Prospect, near the intersection of Euclid (Lake) and Wolf Roads. This is a 6 lane 50 meter outdoor pool that, unlike our old pool, has been nicely maintained. Unfortunately there will not be starting blocks. There will be adequate warmup/cooldown space so we will use all 6 lanes and be down one lane. We will have to further restrict entries but not by so much. Of course all of you who have already entered are in. We know that some of you have already made other plans for Sunday so we will refund the full $30 if you cannot swim. We also will honor requests to change sessions. DO NOTHING NOW, we will let you know the procedure for requesting refunds when details have been worked out. We will also let you know when registration reopens so you can let your friends and teammates know. We have worked hard to once again allow you the unique opportunity of swimming a 1500 in an outdoor 50 meter pool. And we want to thank the River Trails Park District for helping us make this happen. And again to all of you who made suggestions, we did follow up on most of them."

Heart of a Champion

Kevin Lue has been a popular and well liked member of the Blue Waves for several years. Also a tri-athlete, Kevin was a picture of health and fitness. His friends and team mates were all surprised when Kevin began having health issues in January 2009 and shocked to later learn that Kevin would need a heart transplant. We are happy to say that Kevin is healthy and back in the pool again. Recently the Mayo Clinic published Kevin's amazing story in a newsletter which is excerpted here. Read more about Kevin.

Nationals 2010

Kudos to the Blue Wave Nationals swimmers - Jennie Quill, Jack Eggar, and Jim Campana for some great swims at short course nationals in Atlanta. Jennie Quill medalled twice, placing third in the 100 fly and third in the 200 Fly. All three Blue Waves posted some top ten finishes. Take a look at their times and all of the meet results on the USMS meet database. Be sure to ask Jim, Jack, and Jennie about Nationals. They have some great stories to tell!

Blue Waves Place Third at State

In a true team effort, the Elgin Blue Waves edged the Chicago Smelts to take the third place trophy at the ILMSA State Championships by only 3.5 points!
State records fell to Jennie Quill in the 200 fly and Ben Culver in the 400 IM and 1000 free. Ben's 1000 free was the fastest time ever by an ILMSA swimmer in ANY age group.
Twenty men and seventeen women scored points in individual events. We were happy to see many of our newest swimmers scoring points alongside long time stalwarts.
Corinne once again did her magic with the relay line-ups, coming up with the right combinations to add valuable points to the team total. Results can be found at The Kishwaukee web site.
